Crossing Paths Homeward

Crossing Paths Homeward

This is Crossing Paths Homeward, my storycloth on this Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. There are fragments of cloth dyed with brown onion, wolf lichen, and rust. It is four inches by three and 3/4 inches. This is my first try at a small dwelling in the background. It has taken hours of looking, trying, shifting etc. Hours of pleasure. Well, of course, this is to be expected and is integral to the overall enjoyment of cloth making. This piece satsifies something within me. It has elements which allow my mind to wonder about the who, where, why and how. It has some personality but not so much that disallows a viewer from imagining their own tales about the characters, place, and time. This is my  design, but includes elements which are completely attributable to Janet Bolton. This storycloth is my favourite so far. There is a small, bearded figure with a walking cane at bottom right. I 'm not sure how clear it is on screen. He is crossing paths with an outgoing whale, as both continue homewards.

At close of Thanksgiving needle I am very thankful.

Happy celebrations Canadians and happy stitching everyone, Gilly

  1. hope you had a good thanksgiving weekend. i'm amazed at the dimensions of your piece. it's hard for me to work so small.
you'll love the weaving, gilly. it's even more meditative than the stitching for me.

  9. Thank you for putting in the dimensions. It looks bigger. I tried to 'biggify' or 'enlarge' the photo but couldn't. I wanted to see the figure in the lower corner.

  10. This is a lovely one Gilly, and I really like the title. A small cloth with a big story.

  11. Hi Kristin - thankyou, I found that other moons didn't give the whole piece the life that this one does. I always worry.

Dear Nan, I would like to have met your husband. x

Thankyou Dolores - there is a virus in the new downloading process on google.

Hi Susanna , yeah big title! It speaks the truth though. Thanks for visiting. x

  12. Gilly, Thanks for stopping over at my blog and for the lovely comments. I contra dance.. you can look it up on google.. its been around for a long time. Its fun fun fun!! The size of my images are between 5x7 and the first one is 8x10. THey are collages of sorts but I have drawn the little ladies myself. I've added paper and text and cloth on one.

As for your moon? I don't think it's too big .. makes me think of nights when the moon appears closer to me then other times and it seems sooooo big. I love it!!! And your whale appears to have a slight moonglow with the lighter stitches on the top of the whale. :) Tammy

  13. Ok I will look up contra dancing Tammy. Thanks for the details on your work and the encouragement for mine.

Dolores I have been corrected it was not a 'virus' but a 'bug'! Lucky I have a husband who can do, and know, this stuff!

  16. Tiny sometimes makes a bigger statement-makes
us get in closer. I think the story in this
is good to hold in one's heart. All of us creatures are on a path on earth and in the sky.
