| Two Angels with Goodnight Wishes |
This is
Two Angels with Goodnight Wishes, another duo to form part of the package of gifts for my family. It is taken directly from Janet Bolton. I have changed her design a bit to suit my needs. I am finding that following her designs closely is a really good way to learn about color, highlight stitches and overall composition. Janet, to me, is a genius of understated design. These measure six inches by three inches each and belong as a pair. I would like to make variations of this for all my family members. I would also love to have these in my own bedroom. It seems so reassuring to go to sleep with the thought of angels delivering good sleeping wishes outside my window. Lovely thought.
At close of weekend needle I have laid out another Janet Bolton design - a rabbit. I also dyed a selection fabrics in brown onion skin, these are just rinsing now. There was one piece of cloth that had a streak of rust on it and combined with the onion skin has turned a lovely licorice colour. It may become part of a rabbit.

boy, you are really whipping these out in record time. lovely pieces. I just came home with enough onion skins from 2 different markets to last me a year or so...
ReplyDeleteHi Deanna - I usually devote one full day of the weekend to storycloth and that spills over into another day. Then I pack the bits and pieces up, put them away for a week of Uni. - then it is weekend sewing time again! This is achievable because the pieces are so small. I cannot wait to finish them. I forgot to put any thread in my onion skin dye! Gilly

ReplyDeleteHi Kristin - you know it is the small size which makes embarking on them possible - not too big an undertaking. But even so they do take up quite a bit of time - a lot of thought and small stitches! Once I start I find it hard to stop until they are finished. But actually many pieces still need those last few stitches. The thought of all my family sleeping under the same genre of angels just fills me with cosy joy. Gilly

ReplyDeleteHi Serena- I think I can understand Janet's perspective about working small - from the point of view of handling the cloth. It is also such a satisfying thing to hold a pocketful of cloth. I wonder how she would tackle large cloth - what her design elements would be. Gilly
